Events, Events, and Mo’ Events: Los Angeles

Whenever someone asks, “What’s there to do in LA?”, I feel a surge of 10 resources jam my brain circuits. As I said to a fellow Facebook acquaintance in regards to living in Los Angeles, “It’s great, when you know where to go and what to do that is in alignment with who you are and what you aspire to be.”

With that said, here are some upcoming events in Los Angeles that I feel you should a) be aware of, and b) should attend. If you cannot attend any of these events, or even if you do plan to attend, please invite your folks!

Any community-related events in LA that we should be aware of?

Dynamic Weekend – July 30th & 31st

Los Angeles! You  have two events to look forward to this weekend. Please support me and my husband’s quest to serve our community with our talent, and enriched products. First up….ME!

I have honor of joining the dynamic artist and poet Jaha Zainabu for a special art show and July’s edition of RED STORIES 7 this Saturday evening…

“Jaha Zainabu & Shay Fresh Art Show ” will be held from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm and RED STORIES is from 7pm-10pm

Come join us at Vibrations 2435 Manchester, Inglewood (near Van Ness). $10 gets you in for a good time!

Now that your Saturday is locked in, let’s get to Sunday evening:

First Date Memories

Movies? Nope. Dinner and bowling? Nah. Make-out session in the park? That came at another time.

Ashra Kwesi lecture. The lecture changed my life, and confirmed what my subconscious had been mulling over for quite some time. That was about 3 years and some change ago.

Kwesi doesn’t make regular visits to Los Angeles, so if you’re available this Friday evening, this would be such a great investment of your time. Learn about African Spirituality from a documented and thorough perspective. If you’re brave enough to make this a date night, I’d strongly encourage you to do so. No frills or thrills. Dating should be serious business.

BLACK LOVE Book Signing @ Blessed Love – April 21st

I’m continuing the BLACK LOVE book signing ‘tour’, and I’m elated to bring my book to Blessed Love. This is going to be an intimate gathering, and I will be discussing some topics from the book as well as a little bit of poetry reading. This is a family-owned business with lots of Caribbean-theme novelties, including clothing, music, DVD’s, and more. Please come and support us!
Thursday, April 21st – 6pm
1404 W Vernon Avenue (southwest corner of Normandie)
Los Angeles, CA 90062

I Hope You Like Free French Fries & NCAA…

I remember when E.G. was serving that delicious menu out of a TRUE hole-the-wall shop a few minutes South off of 43rd and Crenshaw. When they moved into the old Chili Factory, I was intoxicated with joy. They are truly a family-owned and family friendly business. If you get a chance to meet the “Mother” of Earlez Grille, you’ll want to hug her. Dominoes, chess, laptop business, folks really enjoy this environment, and you will too.

If you order my book TODAY ONLY from, I’m going to treat you to an order of fries at my pop-up shop this Saturday at Earlez! And your book will be ready and signed just for YOU…

If you’re a Final Four fan, the Butler vs. VCU game starts @ 3pm PST, and I’m sure they will have the game on for your enjoyment (they’re sports lovers too).

See you there!!!
