Creating Abundance

Abundance has been a recurring theme in our home, and it’s been reminding me about an exercise I practiced about 5 or 6 years ago to manifest $5,000 into my possession. I wrote the dollar figure on sticky notes – placed one on the center of my steering wheel, one of the back of my cell phone, and a small piece to put in the corner of my computer screen at work.

And it worked. In only a matter of a few months.

I was rear-ended by a guy while driving to work, and a police officer witnessed the accident, called the ambulance, submitted a police report, and the guy’s insurance company was sure hell to check a check QUICK for almost 5k (I received it at the same time as my work paycheck). My car wasn’t even worth 5k, and the bumper barely had a dent! And going to the hospital was a “just in case” action, but I wasn’t hurt, just a bit “shook up”. Now, this was not the ideal way I wanted to receive the money, but this was a lesson in specifying that you would like to receive your blessing in a “safe and balanced” manner.

Now I have a much larger dollar figure to work on.

How to you exercise your power to create your desires?

Doing Something Different…

It’s overwhelming when your task list looks more like a how-to guide to seek insanity. Let’s not even start on internet distractions (including that Osama madness) that keeps us up loooooong past bedtime. One website link to another….and another…most recent Facebook posts, Twitter, oh my. Raise your hand if you are reading this and have 5 other webpages behind this one (or page tabs for my beloved MAC users).

For all my self-taught folks of the entrepreneur status, have you done so much, and felt like you’ve done nothing at all? Google “productivity”, and you’re thrown in the bowels of blogs, websites, ebooks, Amazon listings for anything and everything productivity advice related. Too much, I say.

So why the constant head-butting with the “too much to handle and don’t know where to start or stop” blues? Me-thinks it’s probably because we are looking for the same information, doing the same sort of things to get things done, same tactics to help us stay motivated. And here’s a thought on motivation: that’s a means to help you do something that you really don’t have the passion or even interest in. Motivational Speakers are to help you stay…..well, motivated. But why does it take someone else to kick you in the backside to get you going? Did you attend a 4 hour long workshop to get you motivated to eat that chilli cheese hot dog or buy that expensive new car? Nope. We do what we desire to do, and we know it! When you start looking for “motivators” to keep you on track (or to get back on), that should be your first clue that you’re losing interest, and may want to investigate if that’s the strategy or avenue of execution for you.

What about Inspiration? It’s a means to give your creative spirit ideas to create, start, or manifest something. A bit different from motivation, yes? Raise your hand if you’ve heard plenty of people say that they need motivation to start a business, and have yet to even brainstorm ideas for one. Raise your hand if you’re one of those people! Now, what happens when they see or read a story of someone who has started their own business despite their shortcomings, obstacles, or personal faults that resonate with their own issues?  Inspiration! And a lot of inspiring people were inspired by someone else.

What’s my point in all this? Not sure, but I think this is my idea: just do something different, read different things, go different places, converse with different people, and let’s see what happens. I need to add this to my task list.

Inspiration, Shoes, and a Lesson in Customer Service

Yesterday was a creative ‘slump’ for me, as juggling too many things without taking a break can stifle the creative flow at times. I received an email from a fashion accessory artisan who creates work that gives me chills (in a positive context). Excellent source of inspiration. Heard of Peace Images?

After managing inbound/outbound emails, I decided to get outside, get some air, and run some errands. What an amazing choice that was. Here’s the scoop:

I (finally) made the visit to Charli Shoe Boutique in the “Pico Village” (the district between Fairfax and La Brea), and I must say that I am absolutely impressed. Having heard of this store through a Facebook friend’s post a long time ago, I was excited about a Black-owned shoe business that have people posting their praises on their profile status (and you know posting statuses is a sacred act for many).  Ladies, if you’re shoe fan (or your woman is a shoe fan)….GO VISIT CHARLI SHOE BOUTIQUE.

If you saw the shopping bag she handed me (with giftbag tissue and decorative straw ribbon), you’d thought I dropped $1,300 on some 2011 Spring wedges, when actually I only spent $10 on some cute sandals. She added quarters in my parking meter, so that I could visit a new stationary, event planning and gift boutique next door (birthday cards – check!). Amazing customer service and personality, I tell ya. Please patronize her store, and tell her Shay sent you!

5 Thoughtful Things to Do With “Black Love”

Books are timeless works of literary art that will always be in style and will help sustain the integrity of reading. “Black Love: Challenging the Status Quo” definitely has its usefulness. Here’s 5 thoughtful ways you can use my book:

1. Give as a gift. There’s an art to the execution of gift-giving, and reflects on the thoughtfulness and resourcefulness of the giver. ‘Black Love’ is a book that encourages the reader to feel empowered, inquisitive, and inspired. What better gift can do that? (ask me about the upcoming complimentary gift-wrapping service with your book purchase)

2. Host a book club, or private reading party. Creating a meaningful gathering to dialogue and share ideas about ‘Black Love’ will have your friends and family see you in a light of thoughtfulness.

3. Pull topic ideas to discuss at a roundtable event, or community forum. ‘Black Love’ carries plenty of topics that can be used a platform to stimulate conversation at an open discussion based on community empowerment or social awareness.

4. Decorate your coffee table or any other space in your home or office. If you can manage to put the book down, place it in an open area where the simplicity of the front cover will compliment your home decor. Makes a nice piece for a waiting room to to help patrons ease their waiting time.

5. Read to your children, or other young relatives. There’s no dispute that reading to young children empowers and encourages them to read, and feel loved at the same time. Try a dose of ‘Black Love’ before bedtime to promote sweet dreams!

Put Your Arms Around Me…

When a 1-year old slides her arms around your neck and presses her cheek against yours, nothing else matters in that moment. After spending the day wondering if I’m operating up-to-par as a Mother and provider (don’t mind me, I live in assessment mode), that first hug from our daughter was timed perfectly. It also reaffirmed how much children are finely in tune with their parents, and can read into their feelings. That unexpected gesture almost brought me to tears!

Abundance of Creative Ideas = Wealth

Wealth. It’s the status is many aim for. Large bank account, fancy items for showcasing, living the “dream”. Well, did you know that all those creative, great, fantastic ideas that swirl around your head, and always poke at you while in your sleep are signs of abundance? The term “wealth” has been so materialistically watered down, that many folks are missing the bigger picture. I myself am  wallowing in a wealth of creative ideas that come to me in abundance. Once I’ve allowed myself to define my current status as “wealthy”, the ideas trickled into a downpour. And I’m seeing the signs that the financial downpour is right behind it all.

If you’re in a place where you find yourself chasing after wealth, STOP. You ARE wealth. Stop and look around at what you already have in abundance that creates and fosters happiness in spirit; in your heart. How about the beautiful, intelligent children to call your own? How about your gift for lending a helping hand to those in need? Or that talent for crafting up some awe-spiring recipes? You get what I’m saying.

You. Are. Wealth.
